For most, the start of a new year is a time for reflection, setting new goals, and nurturing ones made in the previous year. My intention for 2020 is to focus on mindfulness and living in the present. I want to let go of the anxiety for what might go wrong and focus on what can go right. With that said, my first new goal for 2020 is:
Meditation: Now in yoga, usually 10-15 minutes or so is reserved for just this purpose at the beginning/end of class. It’s usually guided by the teacher and a great way to clear the mind. I’ve never really done meditation aside from this, but lately I have felt compelled to start. The beginning of the year is generally a stressful time at work for me, so I’ve decided to gradually add meditation to my lunchtime walks. I used the Calm app to get started (it’s free, with the option to subscribe). It has music, guided meditations, and breathing exercises. Spotify also has great music for meditation as well. I love to use the playlist below! I’m starting small with 5 minutes and working my way up. So far, just like in yoga class, it leave me feeling calm and focused!

Get Organized: This is something I try to do every year, but I’m not always successful. Last year, I was able to get a good handle on the kitchen and bedroom closet. Channelling my inner Martha Stewart has been a good thing! I’m hoping to continue that feeling in 2020 and organize my sewing supplies and fabric for my Etsy shop. I started off with making these cute little baskets from Melissa at The Polka Dot Chair. She has a great YouTube tutorial on the Fat Quarter Shop’s channel.

Unplug More: This one is a toughie! It can be so difficult to let go of my phone and iPad in this world of tech. Everything these days revolves around the internet and what everyone is doing/saying. So, I’m going to do my best to spend more time reading, sewing, baking, etc. and little less time on social media…wish me luck!

Exercise: Now this one is probably a popular resolution, but I am truly doing it for health reasons this time. With my over 40lb. weight loss using MyFitnessPal (no exercise), I think I’m ready to incorporate regular exercise and not just trying to hit my step count each day. Currently, I am enjoying an online subscription to my favorite yoga studio, Hot Asana. It has been awesome so far to “yoga” at home with the same instructors!

What are some of your goals this year?
Here’s to reaching all of them! We can do it!
